Jeep Introduces 2011 Grand Cherokee

With the current generation Grand Cherokee still proving popular, Jeep’s chosen the New York Auto Show to showcase the nameplate’s stylish future. Having grown from bare bones off-road wagon into a luxurious and handsome SUV, the Gran Cherokee will continue this trend with the unveiling of the 2011 model.

Besides the obvious upmarket move of the shapely sheetmetal, the biggest news is underneath, where the Cherokee will utilize a new completely independent air suspension system to travel 4.5 inches upward during off road driving. Itself a cue taken from the Land Rover/Range Rover page, the Cherokee will also feature a system similar to that brand’s Terrain Response, with 4WD and traction control system setting adjustable from Auto to Sand/Mud, Sport, Snow, and Rock. The interior features real wood and leather, and again is a huge step upward from the previous model. Rain-active wipers, keyless access and go, and four additional inches of rear seat leg room solves one of the Grand Cherokee’s largest problems. And with all this hung off a unibody shared with Mercedes’ ML, it should be a smooth ride to boot.
“We listened carefully to our customers and the m
arket,” said Scott Kunselman, Vice President – Jeep/Truck Product Team, Chrysler LLC. “Our all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee hits the sweet spot of premium on-road performance and legendary class-leading Jeep capability.”
