Here is the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe

Sporty SUVs are quite popular right now: they offer a mix of big engines, size and lots of cargo room.

Now, let’s suppose you want an SUV that is somewhat powerful, somewhat big and somewhat spacious. What do you get? Well, you could look at the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe, which seems like the new king of compromise.

The recipe is simple: Mercedes-Benz uses the GLC—previously known as the GLK—as a base, and removes a good chunk of its cargo space. This gives birth to the GLC Coupe (which has four doors, despite its misleading moniker).

The German manufacturer then adds a twin-turbo, 3.0-litre V6 to the mix to create the GLC 43. In case you haven’t been following the recent M-B nomenclature, the AMG 43 versions were previously known as the AMG Sport line. They don’t have as much power as the "real" AMGs, but still offer more than the base Mercedes-Benz models.

Still following?

The GLC 43 boasts 362 horsepower, 384 pound-feet of torque and a nine-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive comes standard and sends 69% of engine torque to the rear. For a sportier driving experience, the suspension has been recalibrated and the steering is tighter. The 0-100 km/h dash is taken care of in 4.8 seconds.

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 will be showcased at the Paris Auto Show in September. It should then arrive in dealerships somewhere in the first quarter of 2017.
