2017 Genesis G90: the Brand’s First!

The Car Guide is heading to Vancouver area this week in order to assist an important moment, our first drive of the of 2017 G90, the first model of Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis. The challenge won’t be easy since Acura, Infiniti, Lincoln and Cadillac are in a tough battle against the well-established German brands, which are obviously Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Will Genesis quickly gain market share in the realm of luxury cars? We’ll know soon enough.

The 2017 G90, which will mark the demise of the Hyundai Equus, will target large premium sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Audi A8 and the BMW 7 Series. It won’t be easy to measure up to vehicles that have as much panache, variations and technology.

Making its world premiere at the last Detroit Auto Show, the G90 picks up certain styling cues from the G80, previously known as the Hyundai Genesis. The sedan has been modernised with more elegant and sophisticated lines, and the brand on a smart pricing strategy and a high level of features, which has always been part of Hyundai’s savoir-faire.

Two available engines

Under the hood of the 2017 Genesis G90, two engines will be initially offered, including a twin-turbo, 3.3-litre V6 and a 5.0-litre V8. The latter will be the most powerful with an estimated 420 hp.

The Genesis brand should include six models by 2021, and of course, its portfolio will be filled with both cars and SUVs. The manufacturer will rely on a unique purchase experience, similar to Tesla’s approach with online purchasing as well as service and repair centres.
