Lease a Renault Twizy in Quebec for $99/month
Quebec residents will soon be able to lease the all-electric Renault Twizy for $99/month, according to the company behind the push to bring the quirky car to Canada.
AZRA Corp., a Quebec-based real estate developer, announced it will invest $40 million over the next 18 months to install 2,000 electric vehicle charging stations as part of the roll-out of the two-seat Twizy on Quebec roads.
"At AZRA, we are change agents on a mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," company president and CEO Jean-Francois Carriere said in a statement.
"We are proud to be investing in transport electrification because it is the way of the future to reduce our environmental footprint."
Made entirely of aluminum, the EV charging stations will be fitted with seven- to 50-kW chargers that can serve as many as four users each, according to AZRA.
The company said the stations will be installed free of charge at privately-owned shopping centres and office buildings.
Twizy on its way
Measuring just 92.4 inches long and 37.3 inches wide, the Twizy will be among the smallest vehicles on the road when it hits Quebec streets in the coming months, with dimensions smaller than the likes of the smart fortwo.
Unlike the smart, however, the Twizy is completely electric, with power coming by way of a five-horsepower electric motor and 6.1-kWh lithium-ion battery.
Its estimated range is about 100 kilometres.
According to AZRA, the Twizy was certified by Transport Canada for use on public roads in March, and will be classified as a low-speed vehicle.
Its top speed will be capped at 40 km/h.
