All-wheel drive Mini Clubman ALL4 coming to Canada

Mini is adding its ALL4 all-wheel drive system to the redesignd 2016 Clubman, which will start at $26,990 when it lands at Canadian dealerships in April.

Previously only offered on Countryman and Paceman models, the all-wheel drive system was "specially redeveloped" for the Clubman, with power delivered to the front wheels first, with as much as 30 per cent going to the rear wheels after launch.

The base Mini Cooper Clubman ALL4 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine that makes 134 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque, and comes mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

The run from a standstill to 100 km/h takes 9.5 with the manual and 9.6 seconds with the automatic—about a half-second slower than the 9.1 seconds of the front-wheel drive Clubman.

Starting at $29,990, the Copper S Clubman ALL4 gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder under its hood that makes 189 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque.

With the standard six-speed manual transmission, the car runs from 0 to 100 km/h in seven seconds, and 6.9 seconds with the eight-speed automatic.

Both times are slightly faster than the times posted by the front-driven Cooper S Clubman.

Inside, both Clubman ALL4 models are nearly identical to their front-wheel drive siblings.
