Nissan to produce new CUV based on Kicks Concept

Nissan plans to produce a new crossover based on the Kicks Concept it unveiled in 2014, signalling a potential successor for the quirky Juke with something that shares more of the brand's design language.

"Nissan invented the first crossover in 2003, with the Murano," Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said in a statement.

"Since then, we've established our global crossover leadership (and) the Kicks will bring Nissan's unique crossover expertise to more regions."

The production version will retain the Kicks model name, according to Nissan.

Slated for production in Brazil, Nissan said the Kicks will first be available in the Latin American market for 2016, though it has plans to market it globally.

The automaker said it "continues to study the business case for launching Kicks in other regions" around the globe moving forward.
