On our way to LeMans, France for the greatest endurance of them all!
There are motorsports events, and then there’s LeMans. This most historic track and racing event has been held annually since 1923 – and is without a doubt one of the most prestigious races in the world. It’s not small wonder then that car manufacturers invest so heavily into this event.
The 24 Hours of LeMans is the ultimate endurance race where the likes of Porsche, Audi, Ferrari, Nissan, Toyota and Ford put their best foot forward, not to mention cars and drivers. LMP1 and LMP2 are the fastest and top categories, but the GT Endurance and GT Endurance AM can be just as exciting to watch.

Over the 24-hour period, these race cars will cover over 5000 km. That is, if the drivers are able to nurse the cars through the gruelling event and that, only if the cars turn out to be reliable enough to survive the constant abuse for an entire day. Each team typically has three drivers as no single driver can spend more than four consecutive hours behind the wheel. Driver changes, as boring as they may seem, are part of the strategy for keeping the pace.
Although race starts are always exciting, an endurance race such as this is highly unlikely to be won in the first corner. Strategy, patience and luck are all required in order to make it to the end. Being really fast doesn’t hurt either.
