Hyundai Has Ambitions; Will N Challenge M?

Changes are afoot at Hyundai; not only has the Korean brand recently launched its Genesis luxury brand, but they are also more and more involved into building a performance brand named N.

Seems like N wants to aim high: to make sure they have the necessary technical knowledge to develop this new high-performance division, Hyundai hired Albert Biermann, who was chief engineer at BMW… more specifically at the M division.

So what can we expect from N? First of all, we’ll see an i30 N. Not familiar with this model? On the other side of the ocean, this is what they call the Elantra Touring. We probably won’t see this performance variant here, however.

Then, we can expect the Genesis G70 N, a high-performance coupe that should be a competitor to the BMW M3/M4. To do this, it will probably need more than 425 horsepower, meaning that the most likely engine choice would be a reworked version of the new twin-turbo, 3.3-litre V6.
