The Nissan Qashqai, Soon To Arrive In Canada?

Last week, during the Los Angeles Auto Show, The Car Guide had the opportunity to speak with some high-ranking Nissan execs.

During a formal but lengthy interview with the Vice-President of Product Planning Pierre Loing, we learned that the brand was seriously thinking about importing the Qashqai, a European SUV, to our shores.

Since the Japanese manufacturers are good at not giving away a lot of information (the Koreans are also well-versed in this art), I will go out on a limb and say that their ‘’we are seriously thinking about it’’ could be translated to ‘’it’s pretty much done’’. Rumours have been talking about this for ages, mind you.

Size-wise, the Qashqai would slot between the Juke and the Rogue; it kind of looks like the latter. It would go up against the Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and the Subaru XV Crosstrek. The Qashqai would sort of replace the X-Trail, although it is nowhere near as good off-road.

It’s not a question of whether or not the Qashqai will come here (because it will). The question is more when it will arrive; since Nissan is ‘’seriously considering it’, I’d say that it is due as a 2017 model. If this turns out to be false, I will deny having written these words.
