Nissan Titan XD Triple Nickel: Aiming For A Land Speed Record
Nissan recently unveiled their all-new Titan truck. Among its many upgrades sits a new engine with a legendary name: Cummins.
The manufacturer decided to showcase this engine in its Titan XD Triple Nickel; unveiled during the SEMA Show, this vehicle will have the mandate of beating the speed record for a diesel-powered, stock-bodied truck.
While based on the stock Titan XD, the Triple Nickel receives a wide variety of aerodynamic upgrades to enable it to reach high speeds. It has been equipped with a front air dam, covered wheels (for less drag), a lowered suspension, a tonneau cover, a parachute for braking and Mickey Thompson tires.
The Nissan Titan XD Triple Nickel will soon try its luck on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Its objective? 307 km/h.
No information about the engine has been released so far, but it’s probable that the Cummins under the hood hasn’t been too modified; its Triple Nickel name is a reference to the engine’s stock torque output of 555 pound-feet.
Nissan also reminded us that this isn’t its first truck with a need for speed: the 1994 Hardbody won quite a few award in the 90s, becoming the fastest pickup truck in the world with a top speed of 229.9 km/h.
