Top Safety Pick+ Ratings For The 2016 Volkswagen Golf And Jetta

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS, has given their highest recognition to the German brand’s compact models, now that they’re available with optional forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking systems.

To get that “plus” rating, a car must receive good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint crash tests in addition to at least an acceptable rating in the small overlap front test. Then it must obtain an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention system performance.

The electronic safety driving aids that were added as part of the 2016 Volkswagen model year updates are also available in the 2016 Volkswagen Golf, the Golf Sportwagon, the Golf GTI and the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta. In addition to the two systems mentioned above, the cars can now be equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring with rear traffic alert, park distance control and parking steering assistant.

In their small-car market segment, the Golf and Jetta join the Subaru Impreza and XV Crosstrek, the Lexus CT 200h, the Mazda3 and the Toyota Prius as Top Safety Pick+ award winners.
