Your Land Rover Will Detect Potholes

There is a new technology in the hunt for potholes: Jaguar Land Rover is currently working on a system that will detect those pesky holes in the road

But why? Land Rover has a few ideas:

First of all, the vehicle will use a pair of stereoscopic cameras to ‘’see’’ what’s in front of it (broken manhole covers, potholes and bumps). If it detects something big enough, it transmits this information to the central computer, which will then modify the suspension’s settings so the driver won’t be overly jarred.

The computer will then send the size and location of the obstacle to a cloud network. This means that every Jaguar/Land Rover that travels on that road will ‘’know’’ where the pothole is and can alert its driver, modify its suspension settings and even brake if it thinks that the vehicle is going too fast (I can already imagine Land Rovers refusing to drive in Montreal).

Finally, the data could even be sent to the roadway repair service, giving them the opportunity to repair the worst damage first.
