No Mazda2 For The USA

The first vehicle that will be born from the new Toyota-Mazda alliance will be a subcompact car with a personality disorder; this car will be sold in many countries under many names, and it’s getting harder and harder to differentiate them.

Here, we will know it as the Toyota Yaris Sedan and Mazda2. Our southern neighbors won’t have that choice; they will only have the Scion iA, since Mazda won’t offer their version south of the border.

This makes a lot of sense. Mazda isn’t as big as the rest of its competitors and therefore can’t be in all segments. They chose to concentrate their efforts on the most lucrative markets, and customers in the United States aren’t exactly fond of subcompact cars.

The Mexican factory that will build these cars is also limited, which means that building a large number of various iterations of this small vehicle could be complicated.

This decision isn’t set in stone, however. It would be easy for Mazda to offer its 2 if there is a demand in the coming years.

But for now, if you want to drive something unique when driving through the US of A, get yourself a Mazda2!
