2016 Kia Sorento Unveiled in L.A.

As we expected after seeing the unveil of the 2016 European and Asian Sorento, Kia just launched the North American version at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The styling is modern, and looks more in line with the brand’s newest vehicles. The Sorento is also larger: its wheelbase has grown by 8 centimetres, and the whole vehicle is now half a centimetre larger. Just like almost every car on the market today, LED running lights have been added to the front bumper. New wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches (depending on the trim level) are now available. Inside, Kia has added a layer of luxury: there are only 2 rows of seats on the base models, but buyers can choose to add a third row on the V6-equipped versions. The driver's seat can be heated or ventilated and is adjustable in 14 positions. The rear passengers have their own HVAC controls, and the option list also features Nappa leathers like those found in the K900. Finally, a large panoramic top can also be ordered.

To move the SUV, Kia chose to use the tried-and-proven 2.4 litre four-cylinder, but it somehow lost a few horsepower along the way (191 in the 2015, 185 in the new one). The range-topping models still get the 3.3 litre V6, with its 290 horsepower and 5,000 pound towing capacity. A new engine is also available as a middle-ground: with a displacement of 2 litres and fitted with a turbocharger, it can muster 240 horsepower while being less thirsty than the V6. Regardless of the engine, a six-speed transmission is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional.
