Faulty Alternators for Chrysler’s Pentastar

If you own a Chrysler product equipped with the 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 that was produced after 2011, the American manufacturer has issued a recall that may interest you: in some situations, the alternator may seize, causing the engine to stall.

Here are the affected vehicles:

  • Some 2011-2014 Chrysler 300 sedans
  • Dodge Chargers produced between June 2010 and December 2013
  • Dodge Challengers produced between June 2010 and December 2013
  • Dodge Durangos produced between June 2010 and December 2013
  • Jeep Grand Cherokees produced between June 2010 and December 2013

Only vehicles equipped with the 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 and the 160 amp alternator are included, so if you sprung for the HEMI, good on you; you can sleep soundly. So far no casualties have been reported.

Overall, the manufacturer estimates that more than 434,581 vehicles are part of this recall. If your Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep has one of the faulty alternators, FCA will communicate with you sometime around November 28th.
