Hennessey’s Idea Of A Mean Mustang

Another day, another modified Mustang! After Saleen and Roush, it is now John Hennessey’s turn to unveil his super-Stang. And since Ford still hasn't given us any information about their next Shelby GT350, early adopters of the 2015 pony car will have to seek out one of these tuners if they want to be able to withstand the assaults of their friends' Challenger Hellcat and Corvette Z06.

Hennessey’s new ride is the HPE700, and it is distinguishable from a regular Mustang by its carbon-fibre bodykit, unique 20-inch wheels and serialised plaque.

Oh, and it has 717 horsepower.

To achieve this impressive number out of a 5L Ford V8, Hennessey added bigger injectors, a new fuel pump, complete recalibration of the computer and a huge supercharger capable of boosting up to 0.5 bar (7.25 Psi). All this hardware adds 267 horses to the stock engine, enabling the HPE700 to run from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and roar past the quarter-mile mark in 11.2 seconds.

Hennessey will sell their newest pony car for $59,900 US (which includes the price of the Mustang GT), putting it up as a direct competitor to Dodge’s Challenger Hellcat. They even offer a 3-year warranty on their car.

It seems that the horsepower war has restarted, and we can’t wait to see who will one-up this car!
