More Info On The Jaguar XE
Jaguar aims to shatter the Bavarian supremacy in the mid-size luxury sedan segment with its new XE. To beat the BMW 3-Series at its own game, the XE will have to offer a wide variety of engines.
First on the menu are two versions of the same turbocharged inline-four. Producing 200 and 240 horsepower, they are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. For added power, a supercharged 3L V6 (the same as the one found on the F-Type) will also be available. In this application, it pumps out 340 horsepower, and gets the XE S to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
However, the surprising aspect of the announcement was the mention of diesel mills: two versions of a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine will produce 163 and 180 horsepower (and 280 or 317 pound-feet of torque) depending on the selected options. Even better, these two oil-burners will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Equipped as such, the XE will boast fuel consumption as low as 3.8L/100 km on the road.
RWD comes standard with all engine choices, while an all-wheel drive system is optional.
The Jaguar XE will debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, but the manufacturer does not expect to sell the car on this side of the Atlantic until 2016.
