The Least Expensive Way To Get A BMW i8

If you were looking for the least expensive way to park the most recent electric supercar, the beautiful BMW i8, in your driveway, a dealership in Illinois just sold a pristine example of one for only $29,000.

As you might expect, there are a few things that this low-budget vehicle does not feature, like an engine, or a transmission… nor an interior, chassis or suspension. It isn’t made of carbon fibre, doesn’t have a rechargeable battery pack and it can’t be registered. It’s just an empty shell, mainly used to get people into dealerships. The i8’s wheels don’t even turn, and it moves around on casters.

However, it looks just like the real thing. It was built by BMW in Germany, and it has working front and rear lights (you just have to plug it into a wall socket).

The possibilities for this shell are endless: it could be presented in a museum, someone could theoretically put it over the chassis of another car to make a sweet kit car, or you could even park it in your driveway to make your neighbours unbelievably jealous…

What would you do with it?
