Two New Caterhams For America

It seems that the American market is very happy to finally be able to buy little lightweight roadsters from Caterham.

Caterham struck a deal with Superformance recently, which allowed them to sell their roadsters through the supplier’s dealership network. Now, the English manufacturer will import two other models that will be showcased at Monterey next week: the Seven 480 and Seven 360. Since they will be launched on American soil, there is a high probability that they will be custom-tailored to the North American market.

First of all, it is important to note that all Sevens sold on our continent are classified as ‘’kit cars’’, meaning that they are sold as a rolling chassis (without an engine or transmission). The customer can then choose to install whatever engine they choose, whether it is the one suggested by Caterham or something more exotic.

The first model to be shown in Monterey will be the Seven 480. Its engine of choice is a Ford 2 litre Duratec generating 237 horsepower, allowing the little car to rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. The other vehicle is the Seven 360. It makes uses of the same engine, but has been detuned. With ‘’only’’ 180 HP, it can go from 0 to 100 in 4.9 seconds.

Pricing for the 360 starts at about $44,900, while the Seven 480 will retail at $52,900.
