McLaren 650S: faster than a Ferrari 458 Speciale

The first McLaren 650S just got out of the factory at Woking, England and McLaren has unveiled a couple of performance statistics for its most recent supercar.

The 650S will use a tuned version of the MP4-12C’s engine, which means a 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 pumping out 641 horsepower and 500 foot-pounds of torque. All that power will enable the car to run from 0-100 in 3 seconds flat, blow past the 200 km/h mark in 8.4 seconds, complete the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds, and keep accelerating all the way to 333 km/h. But if you don’t drive like a maniac, it will do 11.7l/100 km in mixed driving according to the EPA. By comparison, the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the McLaren’s closest rival, is about as quick to 100 km/h, but is 0.7 seconds slower to 200 km/h, and will run the quarter mile in 10.7 seconds, eventually hitting its 325 km/h top speed. It also does 11.9L/100 km, surprisingly.

The McLaren 650S will be available in coupe or spider version, and will be officially presented on March 4, at the Geneva auto show.
