2014 Tesla S is Consumer Reports Top Overall Pick

The prestigious magazine Consumer Reports has named the 2014 Tesla Model S as its top pick this year.

The Tesla S - a fully electric vehicle - is noted for its performance, technological innovation and its exceptional range of about 300 kilometers.

The one caveat Consumer Reports cites was its high price: $90,000 for their tester.

The Toyota Prius hybrid which is three times cheaper is also praised in the green car category. The mid-size Honda Accord sedan was also praised, particularly for its fuel economy, while the best sports sedan according to the magazine is the BMW 328i.

Subaru had two entries: best small car (Impreza) and the best compact sport utility vehicle (Forester).

The Hyundai Santa Fe was named best full-size SUV, while the best minivan award went to the Honda Odyssey.

First place in the category of best luxury sedan has been awarded to the Audi A6.

For the first time in 16 years, Chrysler has earned a place in the list of the top 10 vehicles. The Ram 1500 won best pickup truck.

The worst scores were given to Jeep for its poor performance testing, and Ford products for recurring technical problems with the MyFord Touch system.
