SRT Viper TA: Better than the Corvette ZR1

The battle between the SRT Viper and the Chevrolet Corvette is heating up in New York, where the SRT Viper TA is claiming its place in the same spotlight as the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

It’s a bold move.

Ego crusher

Here, "TA" stands for "Time Attack," which is a reference to the time it takes to complete a lap at the Laguna Seca track.

Up until now, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 held the record – 1 minute, 33 seconds and 7 tenths of a second – at the legendary track.

However, the SRT Viper TA recently crushed that record, coming in at 1 minute, 33 seconds and 62 tenths.

Ralph Gilles, head honcho at the SRT Division, had only one thing to say: "Mission accomplished."

Notably different

The powerful SRT Viper TA sets itself apart from the crowd with its incredibly low weight, two suspension settings, more aggressive Brembo brakes and dozens of other details that race car drivers consider very important.

Same engine

The 2014 SRT Viper TA is equipped with the same engine as the other versions: the mighty 8.4-litre V10 that produces 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque.

The rear-wheel-drive coupe still uses a six-speed manual gearbox.

This speedster will finally show its face to the general public at the New York Auto Show.

Only 33 units will be made – all assembled by hand and all in Crusher Orange. Production begins this fall.
