2014 Cadillac CTS To Gain 420 Horsepower Twin-Turbo V6
The horsepower arms race between Cadillac and its German competitors heated up this week with the announcement that the next-generation Cadillac CTS - set to debut in just seven days time at the 2013 New York International Auto Show - will feature a twin-turbocharged engine option that will push out 420 horses. This will give the 2014 CTS the hottest drivetrain in the history of the model outside of the current V series, as well as provid it with more firepower as it aims at Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW mid-size sedan buyers.
The 3.6-liter, twin-turbo V6 mill also generates 430 lb-ft of torque, and Cadillac has stated that peak power will be available between 2,500 and 5,500 rpm. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard with this engine, which steps in as the top-tier option. A naturally-aspirated V6 will continue to be available in the base model. Cadillac will be exporting the turbocharged six-cylinder to the XTS full-size sedan as well, where it will make similar power and be matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2014 Cadillac CTS will be even more powerful than the first-generation CTS-V, which provided 400 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque from an eight-cylinder engine. The current CTS-V holds strong with 556 supercharged ponies, a number which may be adjusted upwards for the upcoming model revision.
