Cadillac Could Introduce 10 New Models By 2015

Cadillac is currently looking to rebuild its lineup and add a greater variety of vehicles so that it can take on its European and Asian luxury rivals on a more one-to-one basis. In fact, the brand could very well introduce as many as ten brand new models between now and 2015. That startling burst of product introductions was confirmed by Cadillac executive Don Butler, quoted in a story published this week by The Detroit Bureau concerning the automaker’s future.

What will be coming down the Cadillac pipeline over the course of the next few years? Some of the new vehicles, such as the larger, revised version of the Cadillac CTS, aren’t all that much of a surprise. More interestingly, Butler discussed the possibility of a compact crossover, and the development of not just one, but several different flagship models intended to take on the best of what Germany has to offer. The battery-powered Cadillac ELR compact will also be brought to market during this period.

Cadillac officials were willing to commit to the upcoming redesign of the Cadillac Escalade full-size SUV as representing one of the proposed flagship vehicles, but company spokespeople were careful to phrase their response so as to indicate that an ultra high-end sedan is also in the planning stages. Development of a convertible, based on the Cadillac Ciel concept, has also progressed to the point where it could very well debut within the three-year window mentioned by Butler.

With this much new product on the horizon – and providing that the brand can resist the temptation to share too many of its platforms with its GM siblings – the face of Cadillac could look extremely different as we move past the mid-point of this second decade of the new millennium.
