KTM Redesigns the City Car with New 3-Wheeler
When it comes to inner-city vehicles, it has never really made sense to stick to four wheels. Sure, they give great adhesion and better handling but let’s be honest, how often are you really testing the limits of your car in your local downtown core? But, for many, making the switch to something with less than four tires isn’t an attractive alternative. Sure, swinging a leg over the saddle of a motorbike may be a romantic notion now, but it gets significantly less so in mid-January.
So, motorcycle maker KTM is looking to split the difference with a new conceptual three wheeler. Emerging looking something like a 21st century take on the BMW Isetta, the plastic car is powered by an electric engine and weighs just 1,102 pounds. As a result, it can reach 100 kilometers per hour, and cruise for extended (read: undetermined) distances before recharging. And although it may seem, and look a bit far-fetched, KTM is optimistic with production dates hopefully beginning in 2013 with an MSRP sitting right around $10,000 USD.
