Prius Recalled Over Headlight Problems

Just a few days after the close of a year that the NHTSA is already admitting contained the most voluntary recalls ever, Toyota is back at it; this time recalling the 2006-2009 Prius over an intermittent headlight issue.

Apparently, some owners (about 2,500) complained that the car’s high-intensity-discharge headlights were cutting out at random intervals while underway, creating obviously dangerous situations. Toyota has already agreed to an as-yet-unannounced settlement with the claimants to fix the offending vehicles. Prius owners eligible for the recall will be notified by mail, after which they will have 90 days to register. The program will extend the affected models’ headlight warranty an additional two years and 14,000 miles to 5 years/50,000 miles, and fix any lights already malfunctioning.
