The 2011 Range Rover Evoque - The smallest Range ever produced
It was at a recent press conference celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Range Rover model that this vehicle was unveiled as the smallest in “Range Rover” history, as the Evoque model.
As such, much like the Jaguar XJ with its very seductive style and technical add-ons that will allow it to set comfortably in its niche, here comes the Land Rover with its Evoque model. As predicted, it proposes the LXR concept style that was presented in Detroit in 2008.
The arrival of this last edition of the Land Rover sees the designers quit the conventional style with angular forms for a replacement that includes a much more streamlined look, very sporty and even sensual, for a vehicle in this category. Impression is that of a seductive elevated sport coupe.
The re-invented SUV
This Range Rover Evoque is the most compact, lightest and consequently the most economical vehicle ever produced by this manufacturer.
Graced with such attributes, this vehicle will allow this English firm to evolve further and conquer different market niches.
With its 4 350 mm length, its dimensions are slightly inferior to those of the Land Rover LR2.
This new version will be assembled at Halewood, in England, creating work for over 1 000 people.
The Range Rover passenger compartment
Although it is the smallest Range Rover in all history, the Evoque model will nonetheless profit from the finish, presentation and upholstering that are worthy of this prestigious make.
Moreover, a panoramic roof is offered as an option, with five numeric cameras and an audio-video entertainment center with 825 watts to distribute through no less than 17 speakers.
Cleaner motorizations
The new Range Rover Evoque will be offered in two and four-wheel drive modes. According to company figures, the two-wheel model would present CO2 emissions inferior to 130 g/km.
On European markets, this utility coupe offers four-cylinder fuel or diesel turbo motorizations, the power of which has gone from 150 to 190 horsepower, up till 240 horsepower for the high-end version. A six-speed automatic transmission completes the package. Diesel motors will be equipped with the Start&Stop technology which consists in stopping the motor when the vehicle immobilizes.
After its presentation next week at the Mondial de l’automobile de Paris, the Range Rover Evoque will be offered for sale in more than 160 countries as of next summer.
