2011 Mazda5: World Première in Geneva

In the province of Quebec, the minivan that is most often seen, and this for a good number of years, is the mega popular Mazda5.

Back home, it was offered under the Mazda MPV name between 2000 and 2005 and then became the Mazda5.

Now the time has come for a new generation which will be revealed in a great world première next March at the Geneva International Motor Show.

An all new edition

Appearances might point to the fact that only a simple lifting has been effected, but evidence shows that improvements have been brought to the passenger compartment as well as to the motors.

Aesthetically, the difference from the previous model is mainly due to the new smiling “nose”, that first appeared on the Mazda3. Since then, this smiling nose profile has been adopted by the Mazda MX-5, CX-7 and CX-9. Headlights and navigation lights have been redesigned. The manufacturer still trusts the sliding lateral doors.

The 2011 Mazda5 can carry up to seven passengers. A new improved and redesigned dashboard will assure higher functionality and ergonomics. New upholstery completes other improvements.

The choice of motors for the American market has yet to be announced, but normally this vehicle should come equipped with a 2,0 litre four cylinder engine, which the Mazda3 just inherited.

Arrival on the American market

My intuition tells me that the 2011 Mazda5 model will have it’s American début at the New York International Auto Show, when it opens it’s doors on April 2nd 2010.
