Audi A1 : True to Tokyo prototype

At the Tokyo International Motor Show back in 2007, the people from the manufacturer with the four ring emblem announced, for the first time, their intention of offering a vehicle in the luxury sub-compact category. To follow suit, they presented a three door hatchback by the name of “Metroproject Quattro”.

Today, this manufacturer presents a vehicle that will become a new series model. By the way, this new arrival almost scrupulously respects the lines of the Tokyo concept.

The length of this high-end city vehicle, 3 950 mm, places it’s dimensions between those of the Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit. But fear not, those vehicles will never rival the A1. The target would rather be the Mini Cooper market.

Realistic dimensions:

Wheelbase : 2 470 mm
Length : 3 950 mm
Width : 1 740 mm
Height : 1 420 mm
Weight : 1 045 kg

Grand luxury interior:

Although relatively modest in it’s dimensions, this is an Audi and as such, it is a must for this car to provide a luxurious, comfortable passenger compartment, equipped with the latest multimedia technologies.

This vehicle can accommodate four passengers, with plenty of clearance, even in the back. Furthermore, cargo space offered will vary between 267 and 920 litres.

Appropriate engines :

The European model will be equipped with new or existing well known motors that will be fitted to the A1. Furthermore, this manufacturer is not shy to use direct injection, turbo and start-stop technology. A manual five speed and an S-Tronic double clutch seven speed transmission are also on the menu. The engines are more economical and, more importantly, more respectful of the environment, with emissions of CO2/km ranging between 99g and 119g.

Fuel propelled:

4 L, 1,2 TFSI of 86 HP
4 L, 2,4 TFSI of 122 HP

Diesel propelled:

4 L, 1,6 TDI of 90 HP
4 L, 1,6 TDI of 105 HP

Logical geometry:

As a sport vehicle offering dynamic performance, this car will come equipped with many technological tools, such as a standard ESP driving security system.

In America

The little Audi A1 is assembled in Brussels and will be offered on the European market during the summer.

Top brass at the German manufacturer have not yet decided on offering the Audi A1 in America, but we hope a definite decision is taken during 2010.
