2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS: On our Way to the Nürburgring for our First Drive

The Car Guide is on its way to the famed Nürburgring track for a first drive of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which was just revealed two weeks ago at the Geneva Auto Show. We won’t be driving it on the 20.8-kilometere, 73-corner Nordschleife, but rather at the Formula One Grand Prix circuit located right next door. To say we’re looking forward to the occasion is the understatement of the year.

What’s not to love about the most track-focused 911 yet? The GT3 RS is powered by a naturally aspirated, 4.0-litre flat-six that revs to 9000 rpm, develops 520 horsepower, and is sure to feature razor-sharp throttle response. That engine is mated to a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox delivering power to massive 325-section rear tires to produce a 3.2-second sprint to 100 km/h.

The GT3 RS is also lighter than the regular GT3, thanks in part to a carbon fibre trunklid and rear fenders as well as a magnesium roof, and features some aero tweaks developed for the GT2 RS such as NACA ducts up front to provide better cooling for the brakes, or large openings on the rear fenders to feed air to the engine. Also part of the aero package is a very large front spoiler and a tall fixed rear wing. The 911 GT3 RS is said to develop twice as much downforce as the regular GT3 at 200 km/h.

Price? CAD$213,400. Availability? Third quarter of 2018. Colour? Go bold and choose Lizard Green, Lava Orange or Miami Blue. Personally, I’ll take Chalk…
