Audi RS3 – On test this week.

We’re on our way to the city of Salalah in Oman for a first drive of the Audi RS3, due to hit Canadian showrooms later this year. The RS3 is basically A3 on steroids as it’s powered by the same 394-horsepower turbocharged 2,5 litre in-line five-cylinder engine that’s found under the hood of the TT RS. Because this engine has an odd number of cylinders, it produces a very unique soundtrack, which adds to the adrenaline shot it delivers under full power. The seven-speed double-clutch gearbox comes standard along with Quattro all-wheel-drive and Audi Drive Select, which allows the driver to fine-tune the car’s dynamics.

The RS3 driving experience should closely match that of the TT RS sportscar as the drivetrain is identical. We expect the price of the RS3 to be set at 62,900 dollars and it should be available in seven colors with a lot of standard equipment including aluminium pedals and a 705-watt 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should be in the mix as well.

The RS3 stands out with a 3D-look honeycomb Singleframe grille, a fixed trunklid spoiler and a track that’s widened by 20 millimeters over the A3. Only the sedan will make it’s way to our shores as the RS3 Sportback, recently introduced at the Geneva Auto Show, will not be offered in North America.

Look for a full write-up on our first drive of the Audi RS3 later this week. Stay in touch…
