Four Doors and a Coupe profile: This is the Audi A5 Sportback

For those that don’t want a wagon, but like the practicality of a hatchback, Audi just announced the redesigned A5 Sportback as well as its sportier sibling, the S5 Sportback.

Based on the manufacturer’s MLB platform, the A5 Sportback is lighter than the one it replaces: according to Audi, it is 85 kg lighter. This architecture also enables the use of a new five-link rear suspension as well as the quattro ultra drivetrain, which can disconnect the rear axle if there is less traction needed.

As of right now, the model is only offered in Europe.

Over there, there are a slew of engines offered: two gasoline units, two diesels as well as the g-tron, which can run on either natural gas, gasoline or Audi’s e-gas, this novel fuel created using CO2.

In the S5’s case, engineers chose a twin-turbo, 3.0-litre V6 producing 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This enables the S5 to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and hit 250 km/h. It also get a sportier suspension and 18-inch wheels.

For now, the new A5 and S5 Sportback won't be available in Canada.
