Pininfarina Wants to Build a Hydrogen-Powered Supercar

At the Geneva Auto Show, we saw the latest vehicle built by Italian design studio Pininfarina, the first to come after the company was bought by Indian industrialist Mahindra. The H2 Concept is a low-slung, futuristic supercar that relies on hydrogen instead of regular fuel to power its engine.

When we saw the car for the first time, we thought it would never go past the concept stage. It seems like Pininfarina and Mahindra wanted to prove everybody wrong, because a production run of 10 units has just been approved, according to Automotive News.

Starting price should hover at around USD$2,500,000, and the car won’t be street-legal. According to Pininfarina CEO Silvio Pietro, the buyers are already lined up.

Hydrogen-powered cars are not yet common on the market. A few manufacturers, like Hyundai with the Tucson Fuel Cell and Toyota and the Mirai, are trying to get into this market, but the way of the future seems like it’s going towards the electric market.
