Chevrolet adds High Desert package to 2017 Silverado

Chevrolet is adding a new High Desert package to the Silverado that blends the capability and utility of the popular pickup with the refinement and luxury of the Suburban.

Available on LT, LTZ and High Country trim levels, the High Desert package gets chrome-heavy exterior styling, an all-new lockable cargo system and available Magnetic Ride Control suspension, according to Chevy.

The storage system in the cargo bed adds dual side storage bins, a cargo divider and a three-piece hard tonneau cover, while the available Magnetic Ride Control suspension "delivers more precise body motion control."

Using sensors that read the road every millisecond, the system adjusts damping settings in as little as five milliseconds in electronically-controlled shock absorbers that replace conventional mechanical-valve shocks.

Each shock is filled with a magnetorheological fluid that contains tiny iron particles that, under magnetic charge, align to provide damping resistance.

Chevrolet did not announcing pricing for the High Desert package or when it would be available.
