2016 World Car Of The Year Finalists Announced

Every year, the World Car of the Year Awards program recognizes the best new vehicles on the planet automakers have to offer. A panel composed of 73 automotive journalists from around the world – two from Canada, including yours truly – submitted their votes electronically last week. The finalists in each of five distinct categories have just been announced.

In the overall 2016 World Car of the Year category, the ten finalists are:

Audi A4 Sedan / Audi A4 Avant
BMW X1
Hyundai Tucson
Jaguar XE
Land Rover Discovery Sport
Mazda CX-3
Mazda MX-5
Mercedes-Benz GLC
Skoda Superb
Toyota Prius

In the 2016 World Luxury Car of the Year category, the five finalists are:

Audi Q7
BMW 7 Series
Jaguar XF
Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe
Volvo XC90

In the 2016 World Performance Car of the Year category, the five finalists are:

Audi R8 Coupe
Chevrolet Camaro
Honda Civic Type R
Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe
Range Rover Sport SVR

In the 2016 World Green Car of the Year category, the five finalists are:

BMW 330e Plug-in Hybrid
Chevrolet Volt
Toyota Prius
Toyota Mirai
Volkswagen Passat GTE

In the 2016 World Car Design of the Year category, the five finalists are:

Cadillac CT6
Mazda CX-3
Mazda MX-5
Jaguar XE
Land Rover Discovery Sport

The next stop on the Road to World Car will be at the Geneva Auto Show in early March, when the top three finalists in all five categories will be announced. The final stop will be at the New York Auto Show in late March, where the winners will be crowned.
