Buick Avista Concept: An Affordable Dream

Last year at the Detroit Auto Show, Buick unveiled a very interesting concept called the Avenir. This year, the historic American brand is back with the Avista, hoping once and for all to send the world a clear message of dynamism and youth.

The Avista is a lovely 2+2 coupe, built on a 2,811-mm wheelbase – same as the2016 Chevrolet Camaro. The 20-inch wheels add an aggressive style to the car. As far as technical specifications go, the details on GM’s press releases are pretty thin. However, we do know that the concept is equipped with a 400-hp, twin-turbo, 3.0-litre V6 that benefits from active fuel management and start/stop technology. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic. The Avista is supported by a Magnetic Ride Control suspension.

Beyond the press documentation’s superlatives, we notice that the door surround and seat mouldings have been created with a 3D printer. The Electronic Precision Shift lever is similar to the one found in the upcoming 2017 LaCrosse sedan.

The Buick Avista is beautiful – as was the Avenir – but chances are it will remain what is currently is: a concept car destined to draw attention in auto shows and forget our daily banalities.
