Honda Promises To Sell Hydrogen-Powered Vehicles Before Next Year
While many manufacturers seem to think that electric vehicles are the way to go, others see hydrogen-powered cars as the way of the future: Toyota recently launched the Mirai, and Hyundai is selling a Tucson Fuel Cell for less than $500 USD per month.
Honda also wants in on this market. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, the manufacturer announced not only that they will launch a hydrogen-powered vehicle in North America, but also that this vehicle will be the Clarity Fuel Cell, currently sold in Japan.
The car’s styling is unique; whether you like it or not, the Clarity Fuel Cell stands out in traffic. Its aerodynamic bodywork and covered rear wheels are reminiscent of the second-gen Insight.
The engine is the same as the one found in the Japanese Clarity Fuel Cell. Pumping out 177 horsepower, the car can reportedly travel up to 483 km on a single tank of hydrogen.
It’s also interesting to note that Honda plans on using the Clarity Fuel Cell’s platform to develop a next-gen hybrid that would have up to three times the range of the current Plug-In Accord sedan.
