2016 BMW X4 M40i: More Power, Better Handling

Introduced last year, the BMW X4 crossover now gains a new range-topping version that’s a member of the company’s M Performance line of cars and trucks.

Dubbed the M40i, it’s the first model to benefit from a newly engineered turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, teamed up with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In this application, it develops 355 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque, and according to the manufacturer, helps this X4 accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Thanks to a stiffer suspension setup, adaptive dampers and a recalibrated xDrive all-wheel drive system, the 2016 BMW X4 M40i boasts sharper handling characteristics, and the size of the front brake discs have been increased to cope with the extra speed.

Visually, the M40i features Ferric Gray outside accenting, 20-inch M alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and a sport exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes. The cockpit includes an M leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, while the BMW M logo is splattered across a number of areas.

The 2016 BMW X4 M40i will be on sale in Canada in February 2016. The price has yet to be announced, but it should be tagged at more than $60,000.
