The Porsche Experience Centre: Doing It Where It’s Legal!

If you own a sports car, you know that it’s nearly impossible to use its full capabilities in everyday driving conditions. Even if you blast down highway ramps, traffic, congestion and legal constraints quickly throw a wet rag on any performance car’s mojo. Plus, we all know that on public roads, safety comes first. So if you want to go wild without breaking the law, you’ve essentially got two options.

The first is to participate in driving events at your local track or drag strip. Events like this are usually organized by clubs or the track owners. They give you the chance to test your driving skills—and your vehicle’s potential.

Porsche Experience Centre

Porsche offers different track driving programs around the world to show off the capabilities of its vehicles, and the automaker is always adding new activities to its roster. It has now opened its first Porsche Experience Centre in North America. Located near the Atlanta airport, this 28-acre complex was inaugurated in January and represents a $100 million investment. Its mission is to allow the public to be immersed in a real Porsche experience through a variety of programs.

The heart of the complex is without a doubt the test track, where you can try your hand at driving various sports cars on six distinct modules with seasoned instructors at your side. One of the things you’ll learn is how to control your vehicle on a low-friction skid pad—see if you can control the rear like a drift pro. Meanwhile, the off-road circuit is where you can put the manufacturer’s SUVs to the test. If you’re so inclined, you can try the launch control system on the Porsche 911 Turbo S; it’ll have you literally pinned to your seat. Bolder drivers can get into the legendary 911 GT3 and push its limits on the dedicated circuit. It goes without saying that there’s a wide range of programs, with something for every budget. Prices range from $300 to $750, which may seem high, but the experience is well worth the cost!

Non-stop fun

The best part is that you can spend the whole day exploring the complex, which offers much more than just driving activities. As soon as you step inside, you’re immersed into the German automaker’s world. The Heritage Centre showcases some of their more unique models. There’s also a Classic Restoration Centre where owners can restore their prized vehicles. The Driving Simulator Centre is where you can lay your hands on the wheels of the manufacturer’s latest race models and go head-to-head with your friends on the world’s most prestigious tracks. The Porsche shop is also worth checking out if you want some exclusive souvenirs, or there’s the Human Performance Centre, a specialized training centre for drivers.

If you think that you rarely get your money’s worth from driving experience activities, rest assured that Porsche won’t let you down.
