Changes Announced For 2016 Land Rover Line-up

Following the introduction of the Land Rover Discovery Sport last year, the English brand is adding a diesel engine and new technology to their line-up for the 2016 model year.

The turbo-diesel 3.0L V6, called Td6, will make its North American debut in the 2016 Range Rover and 2016 Range Rover Sport. It produces 254 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, and according to the company, it provides similar performance to the supercharged V6 gasoline engine that’s already offered in the entry-level trims, including a 7,716 lb (3,500 kg) towing capacity. However, the turbo-diesel V6 is said to deliver a 32-percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the gas V6.

The 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography replaces last year’s range-topping Autobiography Black Edition. It gets a supercharged 5.0L V8 that produces 550 hp in addition to unique interior and exterior trim enhancements and a $220,000 price tag.

The 2016 Range Rover Evoque gets a mild reskin, with full LED headlights and taillights, a new front bumper, new grille designs, a new tailgate spoiler and new colours. Inside, the Evoque gets a redesigned dashboard, new seat designs and new colours. Trim levels are now called SE, HSE and HSE Dynamic. The three-door Evoque will no longer be available.

All 2016 Land Rover models except the LR4 also benefit from InControl REMOTE, a smartphone app that connects to the vehicle and allows the owner to remotely start it, check fluid levels and even find it in a crowded parking lot. InControl PROTECT, also new, is an integrated system that will place an automatic SOS emergency call if the vehicle is involved in an accident and the airbags are deployed. Driver assistance systems such as a hands-free gesture tailgate, lane keep assist, head-up display and surround camera are available as well.

The 2016 Land Rover LR4 is virtually unchanged from last year’s edition.
