Hyundai Unveils “Vision G” Coupe Concept

A small number of journalists were present yesterday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to witness the reveal of the latest concept car from the Korean automaker.

The “Vision G” Coupe Concept is, according to Hyundai, an inspiration for its family of future products that promise luxury, performance and style. The car was created using input from the company’s design studios around the world, but the project was led by their U.S. team. “The design is our interpretation of the idea that Hyundai breathes into all of its vehicles – a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues,” said Peter Schreyer, president and chief design officer.

The car’s style starts out with a massive hexagonal grille and a winged logo on the long and creased hood. The low roofline flows down to the edge of the trunk lid, flanked by slim vertical taillights. The slim greenhouse needs no B-pillar, and the driver’s door is said to automatically open as if there was an invisible valet. The four-passenger cockpit was designed with a luxuriously understated yet elegant approach.

The Hyundai “Vision G” Coupe Concept features a 5.0-litre V8 that develops 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, the same engine that’s found in the Hyundai Genesis Sedan and the Equus, in addition to the Kia K900.

The coupe will now head up the coast to Monterey, California in order to be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 16.
