US Invasion By The Mazda MX-5

As soon as I saw the newest generation of the Mazda MX-5, I was smitten –and every journalist that has had the opportunity to drive one has called it amazing. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one on the familiar back roads near home.

It seems that this will happen sooner rather than later; the images that we see above show the first batch of US MX-5s coming off the boat. Most of the red ones are Launch Edition models, equipped with LED headlights, 17-inch wheels and a leather interior, in addition to a Bose sound system.

Every 2016 MX-5 will be powered by a SKYACTIV 2-litre four-cylinder engine producing 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque (which will send its power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional automatic). Mazda announced that despite some people asking for more juice, it wouldn’t add any turbos or other power-adders, instead focusing on the car’s perfect balance between speed and performance.
