Even More Torque For The Ram HD

RAM currently holds the record for most torque in an HD truck; their 2015 3500 with the Cummins inline-six has 865 pound-feet of the stuff.

However, Ford was too close for comfort; the Power Stroke has 860 pound-feet of torque, which prompted more than one discussion by Dearborn aficionados claiming that RAM was inflating their numbers to claim first place.

FCA decided to up the ante for 2016: their diesel engine is the first to offer 900 pound-feet of torque! Just like before, 3 configurations are available:

  • With the manual gearbox, the Cummins has 350 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque
  • With the 68RFE automatic transmission the RAM has 370 ponies and 800 pounds of twist
  • Finally, it’s with the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission installed in the 3500 HD that the truck makes the most impressive numbers, churning out 385 horsepower and 900 pound-feet of torque

Just like in previous iterations, the 5.7 and 6.4-litre HEMI are still offered; new for 2016 is the optional air suspension for the rear axle of either single or dual-wheel models.

Finally, RAM also launched a Laramie Limited version to challenge the Ford HD Platinum.
