An Inline-five In A Lamborghini Huracan?

Typically, the Lamborghini name is associated with two-door sport cars with enormous V12s; since the start, it's this engine configuration that has been found under the hood of the sleek Italian beauties.

Recently however, the Gallardo came with a smaller mill (small means a 5 or 5.2-litre V10); since these cars are the entry-level models, this decision made sense, and its replacement, the Huracan, used the same engine. While its sister the Audi R8 came with a V8, it was considered too plebeian for a Lamborghini.

Now though, things may have changed.

According to some rumours, high taxes in Asia for large-displacement engines may force Lamborghini (and Audi in their R8) to offer a smaller mill for their supercars: specifically, the new five-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine found in the Audi TT RS Clubsport Concept.

Hear that noise in the ground? That's Ferruccio Lamborghini turning over in his grave.

Fear not, though. Even if this travesty happens, it will be limited to the Asian markets. I'm pretty sure that driving a Lamborghini with only five cylinders in Italy is punishable by death.
