Subaru Gives Luxury Updates To The WRX and STI

Please note that these changes are only for US-spec vehicles. We have yet to see what changes 2016 will bring for the Canadian-bound WRX and STI.

When it first came out, the Impreza WRX STI was built with one simple task in mind: to dominate on rally circuits. To be homologated for racing in the WRC, the cars had peaky engines, rock-hard suspensions and no frills.

Over the years, the WRX STI became more and more luxurious, featured more equipment and got easier to drive. It eventually lost the Impreza moniker, too.

For 2016, the WRX and STI will receive a few updates. While the chassis and drivetrain won’t change (meaning the WRX still features the 2-litre, 270-horsepower Boxer engine while the STI comes standard with the 2.5-litre, 305 horsepower mill), the all-wheel drive duo will get a few updates in an effort to make them more alluring for potential customers.

First of all, the Eyesight technology package will be available for every WRX equipped with a CVT gearbox. This package includes a wide variety of driving aids, like adaptive cruise control and proximity sonars. The STARLINK infotainment system also comes standard on all vehicles.

Finally, if you think the large wing on the STI is a little ‘’juvenile’’, you can order a low-profile unit on the STI Limited.
