Two Record Attempts And A Carbon Neutral Footprint
Last weekend, the Branchez-vous event tried to beat last year’s record for the largest electric vehicle gathering on Saint Helen's Island. The organizer had to find more than 160 vehicles to beat their previous attempt; to do so, they enlisted the help of all the electric-only vehicle owners they could find. This was harder than it sounds, since the only eligible vehicles are those that use electricity as their sole means of propulsion. This meant that the best-selling plug-in vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, wasn’t accepted.
As a reminder, the Guinness World Record for the largest fully-electric vehicle stands at 507, and is held by a car club in California.
Branchez-vous managed to round up 301 vehicles, which means that they shattered their previous record. This is a great victory not only for the organizers, but also for Quebec’s electric vehicle enthusiasts.
However, this silent parade was overshadowed by another, much more polluting event; at the same time, in the state of Texas, 451 RAM truck owners held a gathering to set the record for the largest number of FCA pickup trucks at the same location. They then drove for 3.2 miles, thus setting the record for the largest RAM parade.
