The Red Bull Soapbox Fever Comes To Montreal On September 6th

Do you remember the soapbox race cars of your youth? The good old days when going fast was irrelevant, when all that mattered was being the first to get to the bottom of the hill?

Here is the perfect chance to relive those emotions: the infamous Red Bull Soapbox Race will be held in Montreal on September 6th! The track will be installed in Square Victoria.

So what kind of vehicles are admitted? The rules are fairly simple: no race car can be larger than 1.8 metres wide by 3.6 metres long. They also can’t be propelled by anything other than gravity.

Every soapbox racecar needs some brakes (because there is a wall at the end of the track) and some sort of steering mechanism, since the track isn’t straight.

You can make your car out of anything you have laying around, but the whole contraption can’t weigh more than 80 kg (without the driver).

You need a team, but the only thing they can do is push you up to the starting line; after that, you are alone with your prayers.

The competition’s winner will be judged not only for its performance on the track, but also on the car’s originality.

More information can be found on Red Bull’s website. You only have about a month left to enter, so act now!
