SCG 003: From The Road To The Track... To The Road

Ever heard of James Glickenhaus? He's a finance magnate who you may have heard of since he also directed a few movies in the 80's and 90's.

Nothing very interesting so far, but the man is an avid Ferrari collector. He owns a few very rare models, and is one of the few humans who can boast about having a car created exclusively for them: the Ferrari P4/5, designed by Pininfarina and based on a Ferrari Enzo.

It seems that this supercar gave him a need for speed. His workshop, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus just launched its very first car, the SCG 003.

The SCG 003 is a modern take on a concept that was very popular in the early days of automotive racing; since the competitions were held on closed public roads, the racecars had to be street legal. Mr. Glickenhaus' car will be usable on the street, but it has much larger ambitions: it will drive all the way from England to France, race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and then drive back home.

To do this, SCG 003 will have two distinct versions, and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus' engineers will be able to alternate between the two. When the car arrives at La Sarthe, they will simply remove the engine, a twin-turbo V6, and replace it with another twin-turbo powerplant, this time a 3.5-litre Honda-sourced V6 developing 530 horsepower. This racing engine will be fitted with a six-speed sequential gearbox. Since the whole car weighs only 1350 kg, it should be able to go down the circuit quickly enough.

The first public event for SCG 003 will be at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, and the few lucky owners who have ordered one will be able to see their car before the end of 2015.
