Going Full Throttle With Walter Rohrl In A Porsche 911 Turbo S On Sheer Ice

When the Porsche Cayenne GTS and Turbo S were launched in Skelleftea, Sweden, I was lucky enough to meet up with Walter Röhrl, two-time world rally champion (1980 and 1982) and former endurance racer. Today, the 67-year old helps Porsche engineers fine-tune their latest models, and as you can see here, he’s still got the knack behind the wheel.

Throughout my career, I’ve actually taken several rides at Walter’s side: in a Carrera GT on the Mosport Circuit, in a 911 Turbo S on the Bilster Berg Circuit and in a 904 GTS (out on a day pass from the museum) at the little Majorque Circuit, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some… Each time, I was impressed with his car control; he can make a car do whatever he wants. In Skelleftea, Walter was truly in his element, driving a 911 Turbo S with standard studless snow tires on a slick, ice-covered track.

The video’s sound isn’t great, but it’s nonetheless fun to watch. Check out how calm Walter is behind the wheel and how friendly he is. I’m the guy who’s grinning and marvelling at his skills. Thanks, Walter!
