McLaren 675LT: Return Of The Long Tail

McLaren is hard at work diversifying their brand’s offerings: after unveiling track-only versions of their 650S and P1, the small English manufacturer has offered us a small taste of its next car, the 675LT.

According to the manufacturer, this new vehicle will be based on the 650S, but will be optimised for track usage while remaining street-legal. Expect it to be lighter, firmer and more aerodynamic. It will also pack a few more horsepower, since the 675 in its name is the number of metric horsepower (PS) generated by its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine; a quick conversion to mechanical horsepower, in which we usually deal, gives a rather sinister 666 horsepower. As for the LT moniker, it comes from the 1995 McLaren F1 GTR, which got it from the shape of its aerodynamic upgrades. As McLaren points out, the 675LT is a modern interpretation of this game-changing supercar.

Available only in a coupe version, the 675LT should be delivered to customers later this year.

For now, we will have to wait until the Geneva Auto Show to learn more about the car.  McLaren’s booth should be interesting to look at, since they will also bring a P1 GTR in an effort to get more clients into the race series.
